Personal Tax Returns

Personal Tax Returns (T1)

Every personal return we prepare is put together by an experienced preparer and then reviewed a second time before it is e-filed. That second look is where missed slips, transferable credits and better ways of splitting income between spouses usually turn up. We prepare returns for employees, families, students, seniors, newcomers to Canada, investors, landlords and the self-employed, and we file them electronically so refunds arrive in days rather than weeks.

If you are a returning client you receive a personalised checklist built from last year’s return, so you know exactly what is outstanding before we start. If you are new to us, we obtain the slips CRA already holds on your file, which means a missing T4 or T5 from a job you had forgotten will not hold up your filing or trigger a matching review later.

Employment & Pension Income

T4, T4A, T4A(P), T4A(OAS) and T4E slips, union and professional dues, and the pension income splitting that couples routinely leave on the table.

Investment & Capital Gains

T5, T3 and T5008 reporting, adjusted cost base tracking, capital loss carry-forwards and foreign property reporting on T1135.

Self-Employment

T2125 business or professional income with vehicle, home-office, tool and supply expenses supported the way CRA expects to see them.

Rental Property

A T776 for each property, a defensible split between current repairs and capital improvements, and a considered decision on claiming CCA.

Credits People Miss Most Often

Medical expenses claimed on the lower-income spouse and over the best twelve-month period rather than the calendar year. Tuition amounts transferred or carried forward correctly. Childcare claimed by the right spouse. The disability tax credit and its retroactive adjustments. Moving expenses when a move brought you at least forty kilometres closer to work. First-time home buyer and home accessibility amounts. Interest on student loans, which can be carried forward five years if claiming it this year gains you nothing.

These are not exotic positions. They are ordinary credits that get missed because the software only claims what it is given, and nobody asked the question. We ask the questions.

Personal Tax Returns at PACT Professional Services

Personal Tax Returns: your questions answered

Personal returns are due 30 April. If you or your spouse carried on a business during the year the filing deadline moves to 15 June, but any balance owing is still due 30 April and interest runs from 1 May regardless.

All slips you have received, RRSP contribution receipts, medical and donation receipts, childcare and tuition amounts, and details of any rental, investment or self-employment income. We send a checklist, and we can pull the slips CRA holds on your file to catch anything missing.

Fees are fixed and quoted before we start, based on complexity rather than time spent. A basic employment-income return sits at the low end; self-employment, rental and multi-source returns are quoted higher. You can build an estimate with our fee calculator.

Yes. Catch-up filing is routine work for us. We file the outstanding years in sequence so carry-forward amounts flow correctly, and where penalties and interest apply we can request relief through the Voluntary Disclosures Program or a taxpayer relief application.

Only if you want to. Documents can be sent to us electronically and returns can be reviewed and signed remotely. Plenty of clients we file for every year we have never met in person.
