CRA Audit Support

CRA Reviews, Audits and Representation

A letter from CRA is not automatically bad news. Most are routine review letters asking you to support a specific claim — medical expenses, childcare, moving costs, a business expense — and they are resolved by sending the right documents with a clear explanation before the deadline. What turns a review into a problem is ignoring it, because CRA will simply disallow the claim and reassess.

With authorisation through CRA Represent a Client we deal with the reviewer directly. We assemble the documentation, write the response, meet the deadline and keep you informed at each step. If the resulting assessment is wrong, we file the objection.

Review Letter Responses

The specific documents CRA asked for, organised and submitted with a covering explanation, before the deadline on the letter.

Audit Representation

We act as the point of contact for the audit, manage the information requests and attend meetings on your behalf.

Back-Filing Late Returns

Outstanding years reconstructed and filed in sequence, replacing any arbitrary assessments CRA has raised in the meantime.

Payment Arrangements

A realistic monthly arrangement negotiated against the corrected balance, so collections action stops while you pay it down.

Taxpayer Relief and Voluntary Disclosure

CRA can waive penalties and interest where circumstances beyond your control prevented you from complying — serious illness, a death in the family, a natural disaster, or an error on CRA’s own part. Relief applications generally reach back ten years, and they succeed on documentation and a clear narrative rather than on sympathy.

Where income was never reported at all, the Voluntary Disclosures Program can provide relief from penalties and partial interest, but only if you come forward before CRA contacts you about it. Once a letter arrives, that door closes. If you know something is outstanding, the time to deal with it is now, and the conversation with us is confidential.

CRA Audit Support: your questions answered

Urgent. The letter carries a deadline, usually thirty days, and if it passes without a response CRA disallows the claim and reassesses. Send it to us as soon as it arrives and we will handle the response.

A review is a targeted request for support on specific claims and is largely automated. An audit is a broader examination of your records, usually on site or through extensive document requests. Both are manageable; audits simply take longer.

Yes. Once you authorise us through Represent a Client we can speak with CRA on your behalf, receive correspondence and negotiate directly. Most clients never speak to CRA themselves.

File a notice of objection, generally within ninety days of the assessment date for individuals. We prepare the objection with the supporting argument and documents, and deal with the appeals officer assigned to it.

A payment arrangement based on what you can genuinely afford, sometimes combined with a taxpayer relief application for the penalties and interest. Contacting CRA before collections escalates always produces better terms than waiting.
